For over 17 years we’ve worked with over 100 nonprofit organizations of all sizes in Asheville and surrounding areas. In that time, we’ve cultivated the experience and knowledge base to become a valuable resource to our clients. Our Principals

Slater Solomon

Slater has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Auburn University and was a member of the Beta Alpha Psi accounting honor society. He is a member of both the AICPA and the NCACPA. Slater also co-teaches a course each year through the Western North Carolina Nonprofit Pathways program, which provides resources to area nonprofit organizations.


Upon graduation, Slater went to work for Yeager & Boyd, LLC, an accounting firm in Birmingham, AL. During his time there, he had the opportunity to work with public housing authorities throughout the southeastern United States, learning about what role they played in addressing the housing needs of their communities. This experience helped shape his desire to apply his skillset in a way that helped his community to become a better place.After leaving Yeager & Boyd and before moving to Asheville, Slater spent a year traveling in the Western United States with his wife Nikki who was working as a traveling nurse at the time. They explored the west coast, learning more about the country, and when it came time to settle down, they immediately looked to Asheville as a place to call home.

Slater soon joined Steve in his practice, and in May of 2008 they partnered to form Corliss & Solomon, PLLC. Slater is always looking for opportunities to improve and streamline processes, and he has integrated a number of technological tools to better support our clients’ needs.

When he’s not working, Slater spends time with his family and they stay active exploring the creeks and trails of Western North Carolina.

Michael joined the Corliss & Solomon team in 2009 and holds a B.S. Degree in Accounting from the University of Central Florida and Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Western Carolina University. He is a licensed CPA in the state of North Carolina with memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA).

Michael has over 15 years’ experience in both public and private accounting, with a concentration in assurance services for not for profit organizations. Michael routinely assists clients with the implementation of new accounting standards and the preparation of financial statements. He advises clients on the application of accounting and internal control policies and views his role in the financial reporting process as an opportunity to provide constructive solutions for maximizing efficiency and delivering value add services to the community.

Michael grew up in South Florida before moving to Asheville in 2001. He enjoys spending time with his wife, three daughters and a menagerie of pets. Michael also enjoys staying active outside and an occasional rugby match.

Steve founded a public accounting firm in 1997 to provide auditing and consulting services to nonprofit organizations. He saw this as the ideal way to blend his accounting practice with his passion for the nonprofit and social service sectors. In 2008, after several years working together, Slater Solomon formally joined Steve as partner in the practice, thus creating Corliss & Solomon, PLLC.

Prior to 1997, Steve worked for 12 years in industry settings, with six years as financial manager at Great Smokies Diagnostic Laboratory, a medical lab in Asheville, and six years as controller and assistant to the vice president of finance at F. Strauss and Son, Inc. Steve was also formerly the assistant to the vice president at the Metropolitan Area Committee, a nonprofit focused on addressing racial disparities in New Orleans.

Steve earned his master’s degree in sociology from the University of New Orleans, which has given him deeper insight into inner workings of and the challenges faced by nonprofits today. He’s a licensed CPA in the state of North Carolina with memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA). Steve grew up in New Orleans and has lived in Asheville for over 25 years. In his free time, he’s an avid runner, which helps him keep up with his wife Jean, a reading specialist for the Asheville City Schools, and his two daughters.

Jennifer Jenson

Jennifer, also a member of the AICPA, came on board at Corliss & Solomon in 2013. Raised most of her life in Rockville, MD, she got her first taste of North Carolina while attending college at NC State University. She then moved to Asheville in the 90s to help with a backpacking program for at-risk young adults. In 2000 she changed careers and went back to school for accounting, and in 2007 received her CPA certificate. Jennifer then worked over four years as lead accountant for affordable housing complexes and five years doing payroll and taxes with other CPA firms.

Jennifer and her husband are avid rock climbers and mountain bikers. She spends her free time competing with friends and her husband, seeing who is stronger and more skilled.

Fran Noel

Fran has a bachelor’s degree in Management and Accountancy from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and has been a CPA licensed in NC since 1998. Fran has previously served on the Accounting Advisory Committee at AB-Tech. She has also been an adjunct instructor of Governmental and Non-Profit Accounting at the community college. She has more than 20 years of experience in business and accounting with over half of that time serving the non-profit community of western North Carolina.

Fran moved to Asheville from Morganton, NC to attend college and fell in love with the city and its charms. During her free time, Fran enjoys camping with her partner of over 15 years and their canine companions. She also enjoys growing a vegetable garden and back-yard bird watching.

Deanna Bagwell

Deanna joined the Corliss & Solomon team in 2017 and holds a B.S. Degree in Accounting with a minor in Management from the University of North Carolina – Asheville. While in attendance at UNCA, Deanna was the Publicity Officer of the Accountancy Association, was inducted into the IMA Accounting Honor Society (IAHS) and participated in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). She graduated in May of 2017 and is planning on sitting for the CPA exam next year.

As an Asheville native, Deanna enjoys spending her free time hiking through the mountains with friends, reading books by a campfire and participating in local volunteer activities.

Hailey Dellinger

Hailey joined the Corliss & Solomon team in the fall of 2019. She holds her M.S. degree and B.S. degree in Accounting from Appalachian State University. Hailey studied hard as a straight-A student while attending ASU, and she continues her education in accounting as she works to gain, and later uphold, her CPA license. In addition to accounting, Hailey also studied environmental topics at ASU. She is passionate about conserving ecosystems, and helping local communities become a better place for everyone.

Courtney joined the Corliss & Solomon team in 2019. She will be graduating from Appalachian State University in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Courtney plans to continue her education by pursuing a master’s degree in Accounting.

Courtney is an Asheville native, who spends most of her free time with her family, especially her niece and nephew. She loves to be in the kitchen, whether that’s cooking or baking. Courtney is an avid reader and enjoys simple crafts.


Marissa Wilson

Marissa is a newer member of the Corliss & Solomon team who onboarded in May of 2018. She moved to Asheville as a child, and now can’t imagine leaving the mountains. In 2012 Marissa graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Technical Theatre and an interest in arts administration, which has lent itself to a surprising number of unrelated fields. She is glad to be able to assist nonprofits as part of the crew.

Marissa and her husband have 3 pets at home that keep them busy; she spends her free time stage managing at local theaters and volunteering with animal rescues.
